Implemented design of the Home page for the Carmichael HART website.
Context, Constraints & Focus
Carmichael HART’s previous website was built on WordPress and had grown organically over time, making it difficult for a volunteer-run team to maintain and often resulting in inconsistent layouts and unclear navigation. The homepage surfaced a large amount of information at once, which made it harder for users to quickly identify where to go based on their needs. The updates below highlight the core design decisions that shaped the new experience.

Navigation & Information Hierarchy
The original navigation reflected the organization’s internal structure, which resulted in too many top-level items competing for attention.
The updated navigation consolidates related content into clearer groupings while reducing the number of primary navigation items:

Donate Now was promoted from a standard navigation link to a persistent button, giving it greater visual emphasis and reinforcing it as a primary call to action across the site

CLEAR ENTRY POINTS
Homepage as a Clear Entry Point
The homepage was redesigned to act as a strong orientation point rather than a content-heavy landing page. Instead of overwhelming users with information, the focus shifted to providing clear entry points to the most important sections of the site.
Primary calls to action guide users toward housing resources, programs, and ways to get involved. This approach supports faster decision-making and helps users quickly identify the next step that is most relevant to them.
Automating Meeting Information with Wix Customization
MEETINGS PAGE | NEW DESIGN
Previously, meeting information was manually updated, creating extra work for a volunteer-run organization. To address this, I added and customized an existing Wix plugin and layout to automate how upcoming meeting information would display.
This removed the need for repeated manual edits while ensuring meeting details stay current and consistent across the site - balancing platform constraints with the organization’s operational needs, improving long-term maintainability.
Scalable Program Templates & Clear Contact Paths
Carmichael HART offers multiple programs, each with slightly different content needs. I created a consistent template structure for program pages to consolidate information and improve readability while maintaining flexibility for program-specific details.
Each template uses a consistent layout to create familiarity across programs, helping users quickly understand where to find key information as they move from page to page. Clear contact forms make it easy to request more information or express interest in volunteering, with dedicated sections for date, time, location, and ways to support. This standardized approach improves usability and creates a more scalable system as programs evolve.
